Hi, I’m Adam
I’m so proud to be your strong, independent voice for Melbourne – a voice for a community that welcomes everyone, a community committed to tackling the climate crisis, and a community that makes sure no-one is left behind.
It’s a privilege to be your representative in Federal Parliament; we have achieved so much already and there’s more work to be done.
I got into politics because I realised that by entering Parliament and working with community we could transform our country. I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to do so far.
Together, we made history in 2010 when we turned Melbourne Green for the first time – we got dental into Medicare for kids and $13 billion for clean renewable energy and much more.
I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for our community – for a future where no-one is left behind and we all have a quality, affordable home, world class services and a safe climate.
Right now, things are getting worse. If you’re worried about the cost of rent, mortgages or food and you think the Labor government is failing to act, then you’re not alone.
Labor is backing the big corporations making billions in profit, and failing to tackle the scale of the cost of living, housing or climate crises we are experiencing.
They have refused to cap rents, given billions in handouts to the wealthy property investors that stop renters buying their first home, approved new coal and gas projects and they are backing the invasion of Gaza. It doesn’t have to be this way.
And that’s not what we’re about here in Melbourne; we are compassionate and progressive and it’s time we send Labor a message.
If you’re disappointed in Labor, and you don’t want Peter Dutton, by keeping Melbourne Green we can hold the government to account.
Our movement has never been stronger, and I know we can continue to do incredible things.
Thank you for being part of this movement for change and please keep in touch as we work together for a fairer future for all.
Adam’s Story
A champion for workers rights.
Adam first worked as an industrial lawyer, protecting workers from privatisation and big business. He represented some of Australia’s lowest paid workers, including in legal actions against corporate giants like Nike, making them responsible for the wages and conditions of workers in their supply chain.
He also worked with coal workers in the LaTrobe Valley after their power stations were privatised, and fought to make sure their rights were protected. One of Adam’s first acts in Parliament was to introduce a private members bill extending protection for firefighters who contract cancer through their work, which passed into law with unanimous support.
Fighting for a safer climate future.
In the early 2000s and with the climate crisis looming, Adam knew that it wouldn’t be enough to just change his personal actions; it was time for big solutions – to transform our country and save the climate, we also needed to transform Parliament.
During his first term as the Federal Member for Melbourne, and in minority government with the Gillard Labor Government, Adam was able to play a key role in developing the carbon price which saw carbon pollution drop meaningfully for the first time in Australian history.
The impact doesn’t stop there. In minority government, Adam and the Greens supported the establishment of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), both of which continue to this day to fund Australia’s transition to a clean climate future.
In the balance of power in the Senate since 2022, the Greens have continued to hold the Government to account, negotiating a hard cap on pollution through significant improvements to the Safeguard Mechanism and making it harder for new gas projects to proceed, by forcing Labor to shelve gas ‘fast-track’ laws.
The Greens track record
In the balance of power in parliament the Greens have secured:
$13 billion invested in clean energy
$3 billion in extra funding for public and community housing
Dental into Medicare for 3.4 million kids
Secured a national anti-corruption watchdog with teeth
Won the right to disconnect from work, criminalised wage theft
Stopped around half of coal & gas projects in the pipeline
Imagine what we could do with more power after the next election.
